up/rooted: Young Adult Ministry

As young adults in America we face two great dangers.

The first is that our generation is finding little to no connection with the Church. Not to say that we aren’t finding connection with other young adults who are on journey with God like we are - just that within the confines of the localized group of God followers too many are finding that they no longer fit. The void is finding such a hold in the lives of young adults that even when they become more established in their lives, or begin forming a family, they are no longer coming back to the church from outside the fold like they have done in the past.

The second danger is that we are living in a culture that is extremely spiritual. Not religious, mind you - but very spiritual. We are probably living in the most ‘open to spiritual things’ time in recent memory. So how is that a danger? It becomes a danger when you realize that it can be very easy to self-exist spiritually if we are not careful.

up/rooted was formed to establish a place where those who have long too often been left on the outside find a place of strong connection, community & growth. We are young adults passionate about Christ, journeying together spiritually. Interested? We’ve saved a place for you. Come & experience it for yourself.

COMMUNITY
Community groups are the backbone of up/rooted. They provide opportunity for relationships, growth together through Bible study, shared worship experiences, uplifting times of prayer & encouragement, and ministry opportunities. Our groups are ever-expanding as we look to provide a community group in every surrounding community and college campus from Gladeville Baptist Church. Each group is a little different - meeting on different days, some weekly/some every other week, some open to any age group/some focused on specific groups, some share a meal/some getting together just for Bible study, some with childcare provided/some without, etc. All groups are included in our online Group Finder tool - use this tool today to find a group near you!

up/rooted AM
Each Sunday morning at 9:30am we gather in Room 120 in the Center for the Young Family (you can obtain directions at the church’s Welcome Center) for a large format teaching time. We cover topics that are relevant for our lives and which help show how & where our faith fits into the everydayness of our lives. Past topics include:

• Chase the Lion: Stepping Confidently Into the Unknown - Learning how to face risks and fears to step out in faith when God leads
• Get Uncomfortable: Serve the Poor. Stop Injustice. Change the World… in Jesus’ Name - A look at God’s heart for “the least of these”
• InTransit: What Do You Do With Your Wait? - Learning to find God & His purposes in the midst of the times of waiting in our lives
• The Tough Sayings of Jesus - A look at some of the things Jesus said that are more difficult to swallow
• Kingdom of Couches: Fighting for Communal Faith in an Individual Age - Learning how God designed us to grow in the midst of community
• When Faith & Life Collide - How to filter through the ‘gray areas’ of life in relation to our faith

WORSHIP & SERVICE
We periodically have young adult worship gatherings where all of our community groups come together to worship together for an evening. We are also involved in service/missions projects to meet needs locally, nationally & internationally.
